Line Trimmer
Compared to a brushcutter a line trimmer:
- Has a smaller engine
- Is therefore lighter and more maneuverable
- Best for trimming grass and light weeds around borders or fences
- a light duty tool for regular maintenance of a normal suburban garden
They usually feature a battery or two-stroke engine around 25cc or similar that drives a spool filled with cutting wire for cutting grass and weeds around the garden or along paths, verges and driveways.

Brushcutter
Brush cutters are the tough guys of garden machines - they get the tough work done. They usually feature a metal blade, ideal for thick brush such as brambles, overgrown weeds, small saplings, and tougher vegetation. They generally
- Have a stronger engine with greater driving capacity
- A heavier heavier body
- A metal blade AND a spool (wire trimmer)
- Are perfect for harder work and broader applications
- Have a split shaft design for easy transport or storage
