ParkerBrand Protect

A generator that will not start on a Monday morning is not an inconvenience, it is a day off the job. A mitre saw taken out of a van overnight is a week of hire charges. Manufacturer warranties do not help with either — they cover the tool failing on its own, not the world happening to it.

ParkerBrand Protect is cover for the things that actually take equipment out of service: accidental damage and theft. It runs for 12 months from the day you buy, it is priced per product, and you add it in one tick at the basket. No forms, no separate policy to arrange, no waiting for cover to start.

What is covered — and what is not

Both lists matter, so here are both, taken from the policy documents. If a claim would not be paid we would rather you knew that here than at the point you needed it.

Covered

  • Accidental damage

Sudden, unintended damage to the item while it is in your custody or control.

  • Theft and attempted theft

Where the item was stored in a locked vehicle, building or secure container and there is evidence of forced entry.

  • Repair, replacement or reimbursement

The insurer decides which: repair the item, replace it with a like-for-like equivalent, or reimburse you up to the original purchase price on your schedule.

  • A per-item limit you can see up front

The most payable for any one item is the amount shown on your policy schedule.

Not covered

  • Theft with no sign of forced entry

There must be evidence of forcible or violent entry to the locked location or container.

  • Anything left unattended or unsecured

Including items not stored in a locked vehicle, building or secure container — and any vehicle left unattended for more than 24 hours.

  • Wear, tear and deterioration

Also vermin, mildew, mould and atmospheric conditions.

  • Electrical or mechanical breakdown

Unless it was caused by accidental damage. Ordinary failure is a warranty matter.

  • Manufacturing defects or recalls

Handled by the manufacturer, and by your statutory rights.

  • Theft without a police crime reference

You will need to report it and provide the reference number.

  • Consequential loss

Lost earnings, hire costs and similar knock-on costs are not covered.

Worth knowing before you buy

Where you are covered Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, including travel between them.
Who is covered You, the policyholder, only. You must be a UK resident when you buy and for the whole policy period.
An excess may apply If one applies to your policy it is shown on your schedule, and it is payable on each and every claim.
Security conditions Cover depends on meeting the policy's minimum security requirements and taking reasonable precautions.

Adding it takes one tick

  1. 1. Look for the price on the product page. Where cover is available for an item, the yearly premium is shown next to it before you add anything to your basket.

  2. 2. Tick it, or use Buy with Insurance. Either adds the product and its cover together. You can also add it from the basket if you change your mind.

  3. 3. You are covered from purchase. Your documents follow by email. There is nothing else to complete.

If something happens

Claims are handled by the policy administrator, not by us — but start with our team and we will point you to the right place and help with a replacement in the meantime.

  1. Get your details together. Your order number, what happened and when, and photographs if there is damage to show. If it was stolen you must report it to the police first — a crime reference number is required.

  2. Tell us as soon as you can. Contact our customer service team and we will get the claim moving.

  3. Send the documentation. The administrator will confirm exactly what is needed for your claim.

  4. Get back to work. Once approved, the insurer will repair the item, replace it like-for-like, or reimburse you up to the original purchase price shown on your schedule.

Read before you buy

These two documents are the policy. Everything on this page is a summary of them, and where the two disagree the documents are what counts.

Common questions

Which products can I insure?

Eligible products only. Where cover is available you will see it on the product page before you add to basket, with the exact price for that item — nothing to work out and nothing to apply for.

When does cover start?

From purchase. Payment is taken at the same time and there is no separate activation step.

How long does it run?

Normally 12 months. The policy is renewable each year, for a maximum of three years in total.

Why does the price differ between products?

The premium is calculated for each product from its category and its price, so a hand tool and a generator are not charged the same. The figure shown on the product page is what you pay.

What if I only want it on one item in my basket?

That is how it works. Cover is added per product rather than per order, so you can protect the generator and leave the extension lead.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Cancel within 14 days of purchase and you get a full refund, provided no claim has been made. After 14 days you can still cancel and receive a pro rata refund for the unused days — again, provided no claim has been made. If you have claimed, no refund is due.

What do I need if I claim for theft?

A police crime reference number. Without one the claim cannot be paid, so report it before you contact us.
