Portable Power: Generators for Motorhomes and Caravans
The great outdoors never loses its appeal! The sense of freedom and the true possibility of adventure is very real, but maybe you would like to rest in a favourite green and bucolic spot. We have a huge variety of landscapes to enjoy for a group of relatively small islands.
However, we‘re not all Bear Grylls, living on limpets, elm tea and the odd trout. The comforts of home are readily available, especially in a caravan or motorhome. Did you know there are well over half a million caravans and motor homes in the UK? That’s a lot of happy campers! But how to power all that?
Power Generation
Caravans use a combination of bottled gas and electric batteries to keep you comfortable. When at a site you'll likely have an ParkerBrand come into their own when it comes to independent power. We have supplied the public with petrol generators for over a decade, dispatched swiftly and safely from our HQ in Louth, Lincolnshire.
How Do I choose the right generator ?
There are important considerations when selecting a generator for use with your caravan or motorhome. Such as;
Power Output: Calculate the total wattage of all appliances you plan to use simultaneously to determine the required generator capacity. ParkerBrand has a useful blog that will help you work this out. You can find it here. There is an important distinction between two types of generator (Inverter and petrol). This is discussed below.
Noise Level: Look for generators with low decibel (dB) ratings to avoid disturbing yourself and nearby campers. Inverter generators are typically quieter.
Portability: Ensure the generator is easy to transport and store. Check that you have an appropriate place for safe storage. ParkerBrand standard generators are supplied with wheel kits or are available to fit at a very low cost.
Inverter Generator Vs. Petrol Generator
We know that you need to carefully calculate the power demand that you generator needs to meet for use with your caravan or motorhome. But it would be best if you also considered what you are powering.
Inverter Generators
ParkerBrand inverter generators are petrol-powered like any generator. However, inverter generators can be safely used to power digital equipment such as mobile phones, digital TVs, laptops and LED lights. The electricity they provide does not have a fluctuating sine wave (sometimes known as ‘clean power’) that will not corrupt your sensitive equipment. If you used a standard generator to power such equipment, it would not go well, and your kit would likely be damaged quickly. That could be a big bill! You’ll be pleased to know that ParkerBrand stocks two inverter generators that will save you from this kind of trouble.
Petrol Generators
As long as you have considered the demand, ParkerBrand petrol generators are perfect for powering anything that isn’t digital. Whatever it is, if the generator has the appropriate Kva, these tried and trusted machines are perfect for powering anything that isn’t digital in nature. ParkerBrand has a range of generators with various outputs to suit a wide variety of needs.
